Maximizing Social Networks and Online Resources in Alumni Relations
Moving beyond the basics, this class will offer suggestions and strategies for the more practiced alumni professional to navigate social networks and tools. Discussion will focus on future directions, when to jump to the next big thing, how to plan for and reasonably manage the workload, and goal-setting to improve your overall program employing these tools and environments.
Jennifer Green, Assistant Director, Alumni Relations, California Institute of Technology,
Jennifer Green is the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at the Caltech Alumni Association in Pasadena, California. At Caltech, she oversees alumni career services, and directs strategies for engaging students and alumni through lifelong education initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and regional programs. Jennifer was previously employed at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she gained 10 years of experience in Student Affairs before joining their Alumni Relations team, and at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, where she managed their top-rated college internship program. Jennifer holds a bachelor's degree from Carnegie Mellon and will receive her M.Ed. in Higher Education from Northeastern University in December 2009.
David Lotz, Director, Higher Education, Convio, Inc.,
David Lotz leads the higher education practice for Convio, Inc., overseeing product direction, service, strategy and sales for the company’s higher education clients and partners. Lotz serves on the CASE Industry Advisory Council and has more than 16 years of development, alumni relations and technology experience managing external relations for universities. Most recently, he served as assistant dean for resource development at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business, where he was responsible for the school’s fundraising efforts as well as alumni, donor and corporate relations. Prior to working for the University of Texas, he served as director of major gifts at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. He also previously served as area director of development for Baylor University and as a senior consultant for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) after earning a business degree in marketing and management from Baylor University.

Matt Matsuoka, web director for Marketing and Communications at the University of California, Berkeley, leads the team that manages many websites including the university's online giving system, campaign site, international relations and senior resource sites and UC Berkeley's online community, @cal. He has been in higher education advancement since 2001 as a senior graphic designer and web developer for California State University, East Bay.

Christina Sponselli is the business manager for the University of California Berkeley's online alumni community -- @cal, great minds online. Before joining Cal, she was a consultant in KPMG Consulting's high technology sector, and was as a journalist at several national magazines, including Health and Parenting. She oversees UC Berkeley's business and marketing strategy for @cal and manages their social media presence to alumni on LinkedIn, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, and Twitter - with more to come in the future. Christina earned her BS in Mass Communications from Emerson College in Boston.
